What a fun day today, though spent mostly outside in close to 100 hot and humid degrees. First a fun play date at a playground with a lot of this year's AM and PM Audubon Nature Preschool friends. The kids were so happy to see each other even though it's been less than a week since the last day of school :)
We came home for lunch and a well deserved break from the heat then took off for Brookside Nature Center for yet another play date. This time for the potential homeschool co-op for Owen's Kindergarten year. We had fun there too. I had brought the boys' nets and a "critter box" just in case the boys were up to doing a little stream exploration ... and boy did they!!
We caught a ton of stuff!! I got an entire school of tiny little minnows, 3 crayfish of different sizes, a bullfrog tadpole with emerging leg buds and a cranefly larva. Owen got a couple of water striders, and super tiny minnow and a dragonfly larva

After releasing those, Owen wasn't ready to go and Ty was happy sitting on the side of the creek, throwing pebbles and talking/singing to himself. We stayed for a while and Owen caught his first crayfish, bullfrog tadpole with big leg buds and a few other water striders all by himself. He was beaming with pride and joy.

This little self guided stream study was a nice way to beat the heat while having a ton of fun. I highly recommend it!
