The hawk and the squirrel

Today, our neighbor up the street called me saying there was a large hawk with its catch of the day in our front yard. She wasn't wrong! I believe this big raptor was a juvenile red-tailed hawk (tail was still pretty dull) who caught a larger than expected pray this morning. The squirrel was too heavy for flight so there he sat, eating part of it before take off. He was in our front yard for a good 30 minutes before his load was small enough to travel with. We didn't see the take off but later on in the day, I noticed a large bird in the backyard ... he was back and he's been sitting in the same tree for the last hour.
