Treasure out of trash!

The boys have been spending a fair amount of time in the garage with Pete and it occurred to me that it would be nice if they had access to their own tools and work area whenever they wanted so. I started thinking a couple of days ago about adding a tool bench tailored to their height and after brainstorming with Pete, we found the ideal solution: an old cabinet we got from Freecycle a few years ago that never became part of the garage storage and had been waiting in the basement for just the right purpose!! Then, we went dumpster diving in our neighbor's construction scraps and found all the pieces we were looking for. Pete took over the building portion ... he did and very fast and awesome job ... and the boys and I will finish it with paint and other stuff later on. It will be a little bit tall for them for now (it's 31 inches tall) so they will need little stools but in the next couple of years it will be perfect. They already added their personal "nail" touches to the bench top, which they hammered all on their own.

Thanks to Pete's late Aunt Sarah and our fabulous neighbor Gay (and late husband Maynard), we have already amassed a nice collection of real tools for the boys and I think we will be adding a peg board or at least some nails to hang their tools from above the bench when we figure out its permanent location ... now where in the world are we going to find space for it and all the other things we have in the garage?!?!?

And also, Tenzing makes me laugh every night ... it is his little night time ritual to go to the sick, get wet, play get a drink, play more and head to the fridge to mess with the magnets:
